Here is a thought or two on how to achieve pretty much (what I consider to be) perfect lighting. I am going to say up front that it’s really difficult though… there is a lot of equipment involved… and you shouldn’t even try it unless you are a very advanced professional. Really! Yeah, whatever! We don’t all have to be very advanced professionals to achieve this type of light. If I can do it, anyone can do it, really and truly. Here’s the secret… the instructions are long and detailed so be ready…
Open your garage door!
There, that’s it. Seriously. This is a trick that many already know, I am sure, but wish someone would have told me even back when I used my point and shoot camera. As for the background, you are thinking that your garage isn’t very pretty, right? Well, mine isn’t either. In fact, it’s pretty embarrassing, dirty and completely disorganized. You would never know that this pretty little girl was standing only a foot away from an oil leak (that she pointed out to me with “ewwww” right before this photo was taken.) This particular background is a wooden backdrop that I had made for my newborn shoots that is stored in my garage, but I almost used my long Costco fold-up table as my backdrop as well and that would have worked just fine! Get creative! A long sheet of paper, a sheet, a piece of wood…. any of these things could be used to put behind a sweet little one.
Oh, this girl… Love is what I see when I look at her. Silliness, spunkiness and sweet as can be. She was dressed up in her “party dress” ready for Emma’s Dora party yesterday morning. I literally stopped the minute before getting in the car to snap this photo. So glad I did. I love her expression because it isn’t perfectly perfect. I do not strive for perfection… this only causes me stress because for me, it is unattainable in pretty much everything I try. Her expression is not the perfect, happy smile, but is is HER little smirk that I love.
This photo is for me… forever.
